The Jewish Community of Louisville is celebrating Israel's 63rd birthday with a two-day IsraelFest 2011 on Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, May 22.

™IsraelFest 2011 is a fun, family- friendly way to celebrate Israel's birthday.  The whole event will work to deepen everyone's connection to Israel,∫ said David Siskin, IsraelFest 2011 coordinator. ™We have exciting activities planned for families of all ages. It is sure to be a good time for everyone.∫

IsraelFest 2011 will start during Lag B' Omer on Saturday, May 21.  Typical Israeli celebrations include bonfires and picnics and the JCL will celebrate in the same way.  On Saturday the party will start at 8:30 p.m. with games, an outdoor Havdallah service and a bonfire with Israeli music and songs.

On Sunday the festival will continue with a moment of silence to honor the Israeli soldiers fighting to defend the country at 10:30 a.m.   Younger children can travel on a PJ Library/PJ Library Plus Story Walk, while older children can tackle an Israeli Defense Forces Challenge Course on the JCC campus.

At 11:30, Ha-Tizmoret, an Israeli band based out of Lexington, KY will take the stage with their high-energy, family friendly songs.  Children are invited to participate in a Passport for Israel Scavenger Hunt where they will have fun while learning about Israel's history. There will also be arts and crafts and Israeli food for everyone to enjoy.
